Rajasthan Tour Packages — The Royal Circuit with a Private Driver

Rajasthan is India at its most cinematic. Mehrangarh Fort rising like a cliff face above the blue streets of Jodhpur. Udaipur's lake palaces shimmering on the water at dusk. The golden sandstone ramparts of Jaisalmer's desert fortress. Camel trains crossing the Thar at sunrise. Jaipur's Amber Fort lit up against the Aravalli hills. There is nowhere else in the world quite like it.

At Driver India Private Tours, we have been running private Rajasthan tours since 2013. Every itinerary is private your own dedicated car, your own experienced driver who knows these roads, and a route built around your dates and interests rather than a group departure schedule. Whether you want a focused ten-day circuit or a month-long journey deep into the villages and heritage havelis, we can design it.

Why Rajasthan Rewards Slow Travel?

Rajasthan is a large state larger than Germany. The distances between its major cities are real: Jaipur to Jodhpur is 340 kilometres, Jodhpur to Jaisalmer is another 285, Jaisalmer to Bikaner is 330. Rushing through on a group bus means arriving tired, seeing the highlights, and leaving before you have understood any of it.

With a private driver, Rajasthan becomes a completely different experience. You stop at Osian's ancient Jain temples on the road to Jaisalmer because your driver knows about them. You pull over at a roadside chai stall in the middle of the desert because you feel like it. You spend an extra half day in Udaipur because the light on the lake is extraordinary and you don't want to leave. This is how Rajasthan should be done.

The Cities of Rajasthan "What to Expect":

Jaipur  "The Pink City"
Rajasthan's capital and the most visited city in the state. The old city is painted in a distinctive terracotta pink originally done to welcome Prince Albert in 1876 and never changed since. The Amber Fort is the centrepiece, approached by jeep up a winding ramp with views across the Maota Lake. The City Palace, Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), and Jantar Mantar observatory are all within walking distance of each other in the old city. Jaipur is also India's gemstone capital the bazaars of Johari Bazaar have been trading in rubies, emeralds, and sapphires for centuries.

Jodhpur "The Blue City"
Jodhpur is dominated by Mehrangarh Fort one of the most impressive fortresses in India, rising 120 metres above the city on a sheer rocky outcrop. The old city below is painted in various shades of blue, a colour traditionally associated with Brahmin households and now adopted by the whole neighbourhood. The fort's museum is outstanding. The view from the ramparts over the blue city to the Thar Desert beyond is one of the great visual experiences of India.

Udaipur  "The City of Lakes"
Often called the most romantic city in India, and it is not hard to see why. The Lake Palace a marble palace that appears to float on Lake Pichola is one of the most photographed buildings in Rajasthan. The City Palace complex on the lake's eastern shore is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. Boat rides at sunset, rooftop restaurants above the ghats, the narrow lanes of the old city Udaipur moves at a gentler pace than the rest of Rajasthan and many travellers find it the hardest place to leave.

Jaisalmer "The Golden City"
Jaisalmer sits in the heart of the Thar Desert, 100 kilometres from the Pakistani border. The old city is a living fort people still live inside its medieval walls built entirely from yellow sandstone that glows gold in the evening light. The sand dunes at Sam, 45 kilometres outside town, are where most travellers go for a camel ride and a sunset. The Patwon Ki Haveli an ornate merchants' mansion with extraordinarily detailed carved facades is not to be missed.

Bikaner "The Camel City"
Often skipped by travellers on shorter itineraries, Bikaner rewards those who make the detour. Junagarh Fort has never been conquered and contains some of the most beautifully decorated royal apartments in Rajasthan. The city is the centre of India's camel breeding industry and hosts the famous Bikaner Camel Festival in January. The nearby Karni Mata Temple where thousands of rats are worshipped as sacred is one of the most unusual attractions in India.

Pushkar  "The Sacred Lake Town"
Pushkar is a small, deeply spiritual town built around a sacred lake that Hindus believe was created by Brahma dropping a lotus flower to earth. The Brahma Temple one of the only temples in the world dedicated to Brahma sits above the ghats. The town has a gentle, unhurried atmosphere entirely different from Rajasthan's fort cities. It comes alive in November for the Pushkar Camel Fair, one of the most visually extraordinary gatherings in the world hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, traders, and camels converging on the lake's edge.

Ranthambore "Wildlife in the Heart of Rajasthan"
Ranthambore National Park is the most accessible tiger reserve from the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan circuit, making it a natural extension for wildlife lovers. The park is set among dramatic rocky terrain with a 10th-century fort rising above the forest — the combination of history and wildlife is unique. Tiger sighting rates at Ranthambore are among the highest in India.

Best Time to Visit Rajasthan?

October to March is the best season for Rajasthan. Temperatures are comfortable across the state, the desert is at its most beautiful, and the major forts and palaces are at their most accessible. December and January are particularly popular — cool evenings, clear skies, and the best photography light.

November is festival season  Pushkar Camel Fair (October/November) and Diwali typically fall within this window. If you want to experience either, plan and book well in advance.

April to June is hot  Jaisalmer and Jodhpur regularly reach 45°C. Tours are possible with early morning starts but are not recommended for those not accustomed to extreme heat.

July to September is the monsoon. Rajasthan receives less rain than other parts of India but the desert landscape turns briefly green, the crowds thin significantly, and accommodation prices drop.

Why Private Travel Is Especially Important in Rajasthan?

Rajasthan is one destination where the difference between a private tour and a group tour is most pronounced. The state's most extraordinary experiences stopping at a roadside village, visiting a lesser-known haveli on the route between cities, watching the sunset from an uncrowded viewpoint happen between the official sights, not at them. A private driver gives you the freedom to find them.

Our drivers on the Rajasthan circuit are experienced specifically on these routes many have been driving them for ten years or more. They know which dhabas serve the best dal baati churma, which viewpoints the crowds have not yet found, and which heritage hotels offer the best value at each stop.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rajasthan Tour Packages:

How many days do I need for a Rajasthan tour?
For a focused circuit covering Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer, allow a minimum of 10 to 12 days. For the full Rajasthan experience including Bikaner, Pushkar, Mandawa, and Ranthambore, 14 to 16 days is ideal. Rajasthan rewards slower travel — each city has enough to fill two to three days comfortably.

What is the most popular Rajasthan tour package?
Our Golden Classic Rajasthan 15-day tour is the most comprehensive and one of our most booked itineraries. For travellers with less time, the Best Rajasthan Heritage Tour at 13 days covers the core circuit beautifully.

Is Rajasthan suitable for families with children?
Yes, Rajasthan is one of the best family destinations in India. The forts are dramatic and engaging for children, the camel rides and desert camp experiences are memorable, and the cultural colour of the cities is endlessly stimulating. We regularly arrange Rajasthan tours for families travelling with children of all ages.

Is Rajasthan good for a honeymoon?
Udaipur is widely considered one of the most romantic cities in Asia. The Lake Palace, rooftop restaurants, boat rides at sunset, and the intimate scale of the old city make it a natural choice for couples. Jodhpur's blue city at dusk and the desert camp experience in Jaisalmer under a clear night sky are equally special.

Can I combine Rajasthan with the Golden Triangle?
Absolutely, this is one of our most popular combinations. Jaipur is the natural starting or ending point for both circuits, so combining them flows very naturally. Most combined itineraries run 10 to 18 days depending on how many Rajasthan cities you want to include.

What vehicle is recommended for a Rajasthan tour?
We strongly recommend the Toyota Innova Crysta for Rajasthan. The distances are significant a full circuit covers 2,000 to 3,000 kilometres — and the Innova's comfort, luggage space, and smooth ride on highway and desert roads make a real difference over a two-week trip.
