Amer Fort sits on a hilltop just outside the city, reached by jeep or, if you'd rather skip that, on foot up the cobbled ramp. Inside the old walled city, City Palace and Hawa Mahal sit close enough together to see both in a morning, and the surrounding bazaars have sold textiles, gemstones, and block-printed fabric for generations. Jaipur works well as a base for two to three days before continuing on to Jodhpur or Udaipur.
