Jodhpur, the Blue City, is built around Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India, with the old town's blue-washed houses spreading out below it. The blue colour was traditionally linked to Brahmin households and to keeping homes cooler in the desert heat. Umaid Bhawan Palace, still partly a private royal residence, is the other major sight, and the city's clock tower market is a good place to wander between the two.
