Arrive at Chennai International Airport, where you’ll be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Chennai is the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu, known for its ancient temples, classical music, and colonial heritage. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit the expansive Marina Beach, the 7th-century Kapaleeshwarar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the Government Museum featuring rare South Indian bronzes and archaeological artifacts.
After breakfast, drive south along the scenic East Coast Road to Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram), an ancient Pallava port city. Upon arrival, explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Shore Temple, carved from granite and standing by the sea. Visit the Five Rathas (monolithic rock-cut temples), Arjuna’s Penance (a massive bas-relief), and Krishna’s Butter Ball, a gravity-defying boulder. Walk along the beach and enjoy a seafood dinner.
Today, take a day trip to Kanchipuram, one of the seven Moksha-puris in Hinduism. Visit Kailasanathar Temple with exquisite carvings, the 16th-century Varadharaja Perumal Temple, and the massive Ekambareswarar Temple. Kanchipuram is also famed for silk sarees, visit a weaving center to witness traditional craftsmanship. Return to Mahabalipuram for overnight stay.
Drive through the rural landscapes of Tamil Nadu toward Tanjore (Thanjavur), once the Chola Empire's capital. En route, enjoy glimpses of rice paddies, coconut groves, and village life. On arrival, visit the Brihadeeswarar Temple, an architectural marvel built in the 11th century, and the Thanjavur Palace complex, which houses the Saraswathi Mahal Library and the Art Gallery with bronze icons and murals.
After breakfast, proceed to Trichy. Visit the Rock Fort Temple, climbing 400 steps to reach its summit for panoramic city views. Then explore the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, renowned for its intricate gopurams. Continue to Madurai. Spend the day exploring Madurai.
